This transparent ICA certified 3.34 carat oval green emerald measures 11.82 x 7.75 x 5.37 mm, and has been expertly fashioned with a mixed brilliant cut to balance color saturation and light return. The mixed brilliant approach places full, scintillating brilliant facets on the crown, combined with a more tapered pavilion architecture to preserve the stone's intense color intensity while minimizing windowing. The cutter maintained an excellent polish across facet junctions, producing crisp facet planes that enhance internal reflections without overbruting the natural surface. Clarity is graded included at eye level, consistent with natural Zambian material, and the stone exhibits characteristic three dimensional feathering and crystal host platelets that contribute to its visual depth. Enhancement is standard, applied in a controlled manner to stabilize surface reaching fissures and to improve apparent transparency while retaining natural character. Origin is Zambia, and the ICA certificate corroborates natural origin and treatment notation, offering documented provenance for discerning collectors.
This emerald began its formation millions of years ago in a high grade metamorphic environment where beryllium rich hydrothermal fluids infiltrated fractures and shear zones in host schists and metasomatic lenses. Trace amounts of chromium and vanadium incorporated into the beryl lattice during slow crystallization produced the intense, verdant hue, while fluctuating pressure and temperature regimes created the distinctive inclusion structures that are diagnostic under magnification. Over geological time the crystal experienced episodic growth, producing zoning and healed fissures that now read as internal character lines, and subsequent uplift and erosion liberated the crystal from its matrix. At The Natural Emerald Company our lapidary team studied the rough crystal orientation and selected a mixed brilliant profile to maximize face up color at 11.82 x 7.75 mm while preserving weight at 3.34 carats. The result is a gem where technical cutting strategy, provenance, and natural growth history converge, offering a specimen that satisfies both gemological rigor and aesthetic demands.
