Product description

The Natural Emerald Company presents a matched pair of transparent Zambian emeralds, weighing 4.09 carats and 3.93 carats respectively, round shape, mixed brilliant cut. The larger stone measures 10.34 by 10.22 by 6.79 millimeters, the companion stone measures 10.39 by 10.29 by 6.08 millimeters, both evaluated as very slightly included at eye level, vivid color intensity, and excellent polish. Enhancement is standard, disclosed in full, and the material exhibits the clarity and transparency that collectors and lapidaries value in fine Zambian material. The mixed brilliant treatment combines a brilliant style crown with a more controlled pavilion geometry, optimized to balance color saturation with light return, and the result is a pair that reads as a uniform face up green to the unaided eye, despite small differences in depth percentage between the two stones.

These emeralds began their story millions of years ago in a dynamic geological setting, where tectonic compression and regional metamorphism juxtaposed beryllium bearing granitic intrusions with chromium and vanadium rich mafic host rocks. Hydrothermal fluids, at moderate temperatures and elevated pressures, migrated through shear zones and fractures, transporting beryllium together with chromium and iron. In pockets within altered schists and amphibolites, conditions for emerald crystallization were met, and hexagonal beryl crystals grew slowly, field by field, layer by layer. Growth zoning developed during intermittent pulses of fluid chemistry change, and tiny two phase inclusions and healed fissures recorded episodes of trapping and reequilibration. Over geologic time, uplift and erosion liberated the crystals and concentrated them in deposits accessible to modern miners. The Zambian chemical signature, with its iron content, imparts a slightly bluish tendency that, when cut and proportioned correctly, yields the vivid green observed in this matched pair.

The cutting philosophy applied by our master cutters focused on preserving weight and maximizing color while controlling light leakage, using a mixed brilliant schema that combines a well defined table and crown with a stepped or simpler pavilion arrangement to mitigate over saturation. The larger stone has an approximate depth of sixty six percent of the average diameter, and the smaller stone has an approximate depth of fifty nine percent of the average diameter, values that reflect two different but complementary approaches to achieving optimal face up color and brilliance. Faceting was executed with precision, ensuring tight facet junctions, consistent facet angles, and symmetrical alignment of the crown star and bezel facets, resulting in balanced optical symmetry. The girdles are consistent and appropriately proportioned for secure setting, and the excellent polish indicates careful final laps and progressive abrasives that removed lateness from facet planes and delivered high gloss on table and pavilion facets. Standard enhancement was applied in a controlled manner to improve clarity appearance without compromising the natural texture and inclusion signatures that are diagnostic for Zambian emeralds.

For the client seeking a technical and aesthetic match for bespoke jewelry, these two stones present a compelling proposition, suitable for a high quality pair of earrings, a matched two stone pendant solution, or a complementary set in a custom design, where one stone may be slightly deeper and provide a different play of light under illumination. The vivid color intensity is particularly well suited to white metal settings that will emphasize the bluish green tonality, though warmer metal tones can be used to harmonize with skin tone. Careful protective mounting is recommended to mitigate impact on the girdle and to avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, consistent with best practices for standard enhanced emerald. The Natural Emerald Company guarantees provenance reporting and full disclosure of enhancement, and we stand behind the craftsmanship and optical performance of these stones, providing high resolution imaging and certificate grade documentation upon request.
